2 min read

Installing a lot of WordPress plugins slows down your blog, so it is wise to install only those plugins which are necessary and are proven among WordPress community. As there are countless plugins available at WordPress’ plugin directory, so users get confused which plugins should they install. To make your task easier, I did a thorough research, experimented a lot of plugins, read opinions of other users, viewed the plugin rating and at last compiled a list for you which will surely satisfy you by supercharging your WordPress powered blog without impacting its speed much.

Here is the list of 5 top WordPress plugins which I have chosen for your blog. I am also using all these plugins and you also MUST install these plugins to ensure that your WordPress blog is performing at its best. You can install additional plugins of your choice according to your server’s status, but always keep this in mind that installing a lot of plugins isn’t recommended as these plugins will slow down your blog.

BackWPup – WordPress Backup Plugin

Backups are extremely important for your blog and they act as lifesavers in case your blog is either hacked by hackers, your server crashes down, your MySQL database freezes or you delete your posts accidentally. If you have recent backups of your blog, you can restore it to its previous state easily.

Several bloggers are out there who lose their blogs due to not having a backup and you should never ever ignore this at any cost. For making task of backing up your blog easier, there is no better plugin than BackWPup. Install this plugin, activate it, configure the settings and then forget about backups. BackWPup will automatically backup your all content including MySQL database content and wp-content directory and will either email the backup files to you or will push them to Dropbox or any other FTP storage.

Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin

Growmap Anti Spambot plugin helps you in eliminating spam from your WordPress blog. It is one of the vulnerabilities of WordPress that spam bots easily leave comments on the posts. In some situations, flow of these spam bots increases dramatically and you face extreme difficulties in handling this spam attack. To prevent this to happen, Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin is a great choice. When you install and activate this plugin, it adds a check-box on comment form which needs to be checked by your visitors before submitting the comment. Real visitors don’t face any difficulty in checking the box but spam bots fail to see it and thus they fail to submit comments.

WP Super Cache

Speed of your blog also matters in its growth and if you are hosting your blog on a shared WordPress hosting, you may face page load speed issues. WP Super Cache is a very fast caching plugin for WordPress blogs which enables the caching of files for your blog content and thus the load speed is greatly improved.

You need this plugin as on slower blogs, visitors don’t like to stay much and the bounce rate may increase for your blog which results in a drop in SERP rankings. So install WP Super Cache and improve your blog’s speed to ensure that its SERP rankings aren’t harmed due to slower load speed.

WordPress SEO by Yoast

Without doing a good SEO for your blog content, you can’t imagine even a smaller ratio of success in blogging and WordPress SEO by Yoast is the best WordPress SEO plugin which helps you to do a very good on-page SEO for your blog posts and pages. I would like to mention one more thing here that SEO plugins can just help you in doing SEO for your content and they can’t rank you at the top of SERPs alone. To make the task of SEO easier, there is nothing better than Yoast. It rewrites your titles, writes meta-descriptions, allows you to attribute index, no-index, follow and no-follow attributes, checks keywords density, checks alt tags of images and much more. The goodness of WordPress SEO plugin is that it is totally free. So install this plugin and take help from it to optimize your blog content for search engines to gain higher rankings in SERPs.

Comment Notifier

Comment Notifier is my last recommendation. This plugin, when installed, adds a box below comment form which allows your visitors to subscribe for comments. The plugin also allows you to set a custom thank you email for the commenters who comment on your blog for the first time. In such a way, this plugin helps you building a relation with your audience by bringing them back to your blog and as a result, they ultimately become loyal readers of your blog posts.

So this was the list of 5 top WordPress plugins which I am recommending you after analyzing their performance. I hope you will find these plugins useful and will make them an essential part of your WordPress blog. Good luck with your blogging journey 🙂

  1. I’m using SiteGround hosting and they have pre installed and activated Cloudfare CDN and SG Cache (SiteGround Cache) plugin to speed up website and improve load time, so should I also use WP Super Cache?

    1. Hi Huzaima, no you don’t need to install WP Super Cache as SiteGround’s own cache plugin is also good. If you feel that your site is still slow, then you can do an experiment by deactivating SG cache for a while and install WP Super Cache.
