How to Disable Copying of Text on Your Blog Posts

1 min read

Content thieves tend to copy text from blogs and websites across the web and sometimes these thieves rank higher than those from where they have copied it. To make the task of copying text a little complex for content thieves, there is a script which will disable the text copying from your WordPress or Blogger blog.

Although Google has stated that copying of text is okay as far as it is falling under the category of spam, still if someone copies your original writing and publish it over his/her blog, it hurts a lot, because you put your efforts into it to write for your audience. You spend several minutes, may even hours, to write posts and when someone steals it, it is unbearable.

So to prevent content thieves from copying your blog posts, follow below simple instructions. After that, no one will be able to steal your content 🙂

For Blogger Blogs:

To disable text copying on your Blogger blog, go to your blog’s dashboard, then its layout and add an HTML/JavaScript gadget by pasting below code:

<script type="text/javascript">
var omitformtags=["input", "textarea", "select"]
omitformtags=omitformtags.join("|")
function disableselect(e){
if (omitformtags.indexOf(e.target.tagName.toLowerCase())==-1)
return false
}
function reEnable(){
return true
}
if (typeof document.onselectstart!="undefined")
document.onselectstart=new Function ("return false")
else{
document.onmousedown=disableselect
document.onmouseup=reEnable
}
</script>

After adding the gadget, save the layout settings. Now your blog posts’ text is protected from being copied.

For WordPress Blogs:

Go to your blog’s dashboard and then go to “Widgets” section under Appearance. Now add an Arbitrary text/HTML widget by pasting above provided code.

I hope this short tutorial will help you protecting your blog posts’ content from being copied by content thieves. If you need any further assistance or if the script isn’t working, you can ask me in comments.
