Shared hosting mostly fails to cope with the demands of delivering the content effectively, when a good number of consistent visitors is built on your blog. WordPress is undoubtedly the best blogging tool available but it slows down dramatically, when configured improperly. A bad host is one of the most important factors in addition to several others behind slowing down WordPress.
So if your blog receives a good number of visitors, then you might need to upgrade your hosting. There are two choices, the first is VPS and second one is “Dedicated Hosting”. VPS costs low and you can afford even if you don’t earn too much from blogging. Dedicated servers are though robust in providing stable and flexible performance but they are costly. In such a situation, it is a good idea to upgrade to VPS from shared and then to dedicated later when needed.
So I was going through the same situation. In beginning, my blog was hosted on Blogger. Later I moved to WordPress with a shared hosting at HostGator. It was good and I was satisfied of its performance, but over last couple of months, my blog traffic went up considerably and I noticed that the shared hosting isn’t a good choice anymore as the load time of my WordPress powered blog was gone up dramatically. That wasn’t a good indicator as Google hates the sites where the load time is poor.
Then I looked over HostGator’s VPS plans but the plans didn’t satisfied me. I was searching for an affordable plan with a maximum budget of $30-$40 per month but HostGator wasn’t providing me all needed add-ons on that price. The most affordable package at HostGator with cPanel was priced at $49.5 per month where 30GB storage was being provided with a monthly data transfer of 500GB, RAM of 768MB and 1.13 GHZ CPU. Other cheap packages were though affordable but cPanel wasn’t included with them.
I realized that HostGator isn’t a good choice for VPS and then started researching about any affordable yet quality VPS hosting. During the research, I reached a blog post where the blogger was talking about HostMonster’s VPS hosting (that wasn’t a motivating review but was written by a blogger like me who was hosting his blog with them and was happy with their performance).
I then went through HostMonster and found that their VPS packages are seeming really the best among market. The most affordable package was branded as Standard package and that was what I was actually in search of. I immediately signed up after knowing that the package is brilliant, i.e. 30GB SAN storage (upgradeable), 1TB monthly data transfer (upgradable), one dedicated IP (additional IPs can be purchaed), single core CPU with 2GB dedicated RAM, CentOS 6.4 and cPanel were included under the same price 🙂 .
The price for above all was just $14 for the first month and $29.99 / month recurring. I was still in doubt about the performance of their servers, so I paid for a single month only and moved over there to see how it performs.
The performance was really brilliant and my blog’s load time improved greatly. Everything was going fine but on January 2, I noticed that my blog isn’t up 🙁 . HostMonster’s server was down. I kept checking it but my blog stayed down for about whole 4 hours 🙁 .
On the other day, I came to know that the downtime was caused by a network problem and HostGator and BlueHost also suffered from the issue. Their datacenters in Provo, US were also down for the similar time. It clarified me that HostMonster’s server wasn’t down, indeed it was the network problem which resulted this.
It again created respect in my heart for HostMonster and yesterday, I paid for the second month and then decided to write this post to let you know about the affordable and stable VPS hosting of HostMonster. When I was researching for a good VPS hosting, there wasn’t clear information about any affordable and good VPS hosting and most of the articles I read were just reviews by affiliates. The blog post I read really helped me but the funniest thing is, I didn’t even remembered the URL of that blog post. Reached there from Google search, read the post and then went to HonstMonster 🙁 .
So if you are searching for an affordable VPS host for your WordPress blog, then HostMonster will surely satisfy you. I am using its hosting and you can see how fast my blog loads 🙂 . Its uptime is extremely good. Most importantly, the support is brilliant too. Your queries will be answered quickly and they supported me brilliantly when I was inquiring about their service in beginning. I haven’t needed to contact them for any reason since I have signed up as everything is going well but I believe that they will solve my issue quickly if I face any.
One last thing, which I would like to mention is, you need to purchase cPanel and other add-ons separately with most known VPS hosts, but HostMonster provides you the licensed cPanel under same price. So I can say that cPanel is included “free” with the hosting. This saves a good money, otherwise you need to spend with other hosts.
